For much of its history, although with interruptions at various points, Herff Jones has been the official supplier of the class ring to the United States Military Academy at West Point. In 2021, I updated ring catalog that we provide to cadets to detail all the options, which I had overhauled the year prior. Cadets are required to purchase a ring, although they receive an allotment to cover the cost of a standard ring. But they have the option to customize the ring in dozens of different ways, and many cadets do. Due to USMA schedules and when cadets have to place orders, this catalog had be designed well in advance of when it would be distributed.
As opposed to previous version, the changes to the 2023 catalog were not particularly substantial. Product was updated, new photography taken and edited, but the biggest visual difference was the inclusion of USMA photos taken by a military photographer at an official ring ceremony. These were great for including a human element in the catalog, as well as showing cadets the ceremony in which they would be taking part. Additionally, the cover from the previous year had used a leather surface texture, but we found that in print it ended up looking a little muddy. To get away from that, as well as differentiate it from the previous year, I flipped the cover to a crisp white.
In addition to the catalog, I created a number of forms and envelopes for packets that cadets would receive. Similarly, HJ held an onsite ordering event at West Point, and I also created a large amount of banners and collateral for that event. Further details about these ancillary items can be found here.
