Ready Set Bake is a cozy tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) designed to allow players to take on the roles of bakers in a competition inspired by the Great British Bake-off.
It was the flagship product of Sunken Rust Games, established by my spouse and I as the banner under which we release TTRPGs and related materials. They handled the game design for this one, while I handled layout and file production.
In contrast to most of the material in this portfolio, it was delightfully freeing to have only the theme of the game to guide me here, with no branding or approvals process to rein me in. The result is one of my favorite things I've ever done, striking a balance between elegant simplicity and homestyle warmth.

Ready Set Bake is a 12-page booklet. Its title and main headers are set in beautiful Cagliari, a fashion serif by Chilean foundry Latinotype (check out all their work, they're incredible type designers). The body copy and subheads are set in versatile Good Pro, which is both extremely readable while maintaining a sense of warmth and gentle curves.
Tables were left open-sided to suggest the feeling of a chalkboard menu board at a coffee or sandwich shop, a look that's enhanced when placed on a black paint texture (as shown to the left).
The primary goldenrod color was chosen not only for its strong contrast with black on the cover, but also so that it could remain legible on white pages. Combined with the image of the baked goods on the opening spread, it remains reminiscent of those colors of wheat and bread throughout.
In addition to the full-color variant, I also created a low-ink version suitable for home printing.
