Composite Process
The majority of Herff Jones photoshoots take place in studio, which means that sometimes image composites are necessary to convey the desired mood. For this piece, I began with field-blurring the background, then added the model and did the same again, ensuring that the mdoel's eyes, ring, and tassel signet were all sharply in focus. I then added a color layer with 10% opacity and set to Color blending mode, which helped desaturate the subject and match the room's lighting. The final step was to create an overlay layer for hand-painting dodge and burn effects, necessary to match the impression that the light in the room is coming from the left.
