In late 2024, we spent four days photographing models in product for the Class of 2026, which would be used in catalog designs, ecommerce, email, social posts, and various other material in the next 18 months. In January 2025, we learned that one of our product samples, the proud parent hoodie, was in fact incorrect, and should have been a regular crewneck sweatshirt. While bringing a model back in for another quick shoot was a possibility, my Creative Director and I agreed it made sense to try Photoshopping it first—why spend money and time unless it was necessary?
I asked our photographer to shoot the new sample on a mannequin, and then took that file and blended it with the original shot. I additionally pulled another shot of the model in a black t-shirt to help with the sweatshirt not fitting his neck perfectly. The lighting between the two shots was significantly different, which required a good deal of dodging, burning, boosting contrast, and temperature adjustments to blend well. Lastly, I applied my standard cutout and darkening of the hair fringes to prevent halos, allowing it to be used on any background.
A look at the process and Photoshop layers can be seen below.
